BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2406 FAX: (517) 373-5679 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 6, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at 12:00 noon, in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4676 (Rep. Young). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4677 (Rep. Young). 3. Testimony regarding HB 4678 (Rep. Edwards). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, Lindsey, Hoitenga, and Damoose, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the meeting minutes from November 7, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Bayer and Shink were excused from the meeting. The Chair invited Rep.(s) Young and Edwards to summarize House Bills 4646, 4677, and 4678. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4676, HB 4677, and HB 4678: Dr. Delsa Chapman, Deputy Superintendent for the Division for Educator, Student and School Support, MDE – Support Michelle Wiliams, Special Populations Unit Manager in the Office of Educational Support, MDE – Support Saba Gebrai, Park West Foundation – Support Cassandra McLaurin, Park West Foundation – Support Alexia Roberts, Park West Foundation – Support Alyssa Andrews, Park West Foundation – Support Page 1 of 2 The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4676, HB 4677, and HB 4678: Danielle Sirianni, MI County Social Services Association – Support Chardae Burton, MDHHS – Support Tammy Daenzer, MEA – Support Rachel Richards, Michigan League for Public Policy – Support Kerry Sanders, Samaritas – Support Tom Hickson, Michigan Catholic Conferece – Support Melina Brann, National Association of Social Workers – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
