BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7350 FAX: (517) 373-9228 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 13, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education was scheduled for Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 567 (Sen. Irwin) and SB 568 (Sen. Polehanki). The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:32 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to adopt the meeting minutes from February 6, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 567 and SB 568: Drs. Sue Carnell, Jen Saylor, and Kim St. Martin, Michigan Department of Education – Support Dr. Adrea Truckenmiller, MSU College of Education – No Position Caroline Stout, Michigan Association of School Psychologists – Support John Severson and Mike Yocom, Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators – Opposition Dr. Nick Ceglarek, Northwest Education Services – No Position Dr. Holly Windram, Michigan Education Corps – No Position Rebecca Irby, New Detroit – Support Dr. Leah Van Belle, 313 Reads – Support Carrie Miculka, Owosso Schools – Support Scott Koziol, Charlevoix-Emmet ISD – No Position Susan Ward-Schmidt, Ann Arbor Public Schools – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 567 and SB 568: Tom Hickson, Michigan Catholic Conference – Support Teri Langley, Disability Network Michigan – Support Casey Stratton, Michigan Disability Rights Coalition – Support Michele Maleszyk – Support Page 1 of 2 Janet Brown – Support Nicole Clayton – Support Jennifer Garland – Support Billie Schultz – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 567: Jen Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards – Opposition There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
