BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7315 FAX: (517) 373-3126 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 28, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy was scheduled for Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4101 (Rep. VanderWall). 2. Reported HB 4608 (Rep. Pohutsky) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:34 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, Huizenga, and Runestad, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Santana to adopt the meeting minutes from February 14, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Cherry was excused from the meeting. The Chair invited Nick Miller, of Rep. VanderWall's office, to summarize HB 4101. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4101: Kelli Pierce, Michigan Speech Language Hearing Association – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4101: Elizabeth Kutter, Michigan Health and Hospital Association – Support Marnie Triemstra, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs – Neutral The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4608: Cynthia Rutkowski, Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics – Support Beth Lyman, Citizen – Support Emily Ostrowski, Citizen – Support Wendy LaFontain, Citizen – Support Alex Thompson, Citizen – Support Page 1 of 2 Amy VanTighem, Citizen – Support Elizabeth Kutter, Michigan Health and Hospital Association – Support Marnie Triemstra, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs – Neutral At 12:42 p.m., the Chair called for the committee to go at ease. At 12:50, the Chair reconvened the committee. The Chair made a motion, supported by Sen. Santana, to report HB 4608 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, and Huizenga Nays: Sen. Runestad The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
