BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2523 FAX: (517) 373-5669 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 29, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Economic and Community Development was scheduled for Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 12:00 noon, in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 481 (Sen. Klinefelt) with recommendation. 2. Testimony regarding SB 536 (Sen. Wojno) and SB 537 (Sen. Wojno). 3. Presentation by Michigan Future, Inc on titled "A New Path to Prosperity?" The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:34 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McMorrow, Sen.(s) Cavanagh, Polehanki, McDonald Rivet, Moss, Geiss, Victory, Lindsey and Webber, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to adopt the meeting minutes from February 15, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Polehanki to report SB 481 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair McMorrow, Sen.(s) Cavanagh, Polehanki, McDonald Rivet, Geiss, Victory, Lindsey, and Webber. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. At 12:37 p.m., Sen. Jeremy Moss entered the meeting. The Chair made a motion to reconsider the vote by which SB 481 was reported. Without objection, the motion prevailed and the vote was reconsidered. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to report SB 481 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Page 1 of 2 Yeas: Chair McMorrow, Sen.(s) Cavanagh, Polehanki, McDonald Rivet, Moss, Geiss, Victory, Lindsey, and Webber. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair invited Sen. Wojno to summarize SB 536 and SB 537. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 536 and SB 537: Jared Belka, Northpoint – Support Johnny Sweeny, Northpoint – Support The Chair invited Lou Glazer, President of Michigan Future, Inc. for a presentation titled "A New Path to Prosperity?" Member questions followed. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
