BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-0142 FAX: (517) 373-3938 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 20, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Labor was scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 571 (S-2) (Sen. Cherry) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:03 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri, Cavanagh and Albert, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to adopt the meeting minutes from February 15, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to adopt the (S-2) version of SB 571. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the (S-2) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 571: Jayshona Hicks and Sean Egan, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity – No Position The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 571: Joe Henri, Dimension Energy – Support Todd Tennis, IBEW Michigan State Conference – Support Eli Isaguirre, Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights – Support Robert Joerg, Michigan Laborers District Council – Support Shane Hernandez, ABC of Michigan – Opposition Jim Murray, Summit Ridge Energy – Support Stephanie Johnson, UWUA - Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to report the (S-2) version of SB 571 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert.
