BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2426 FAX: (517) 373-2964 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 9, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Agriculture was scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 645 (Sen. Shink). The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Shink, Sen.(s) Cherry, Singh, Polehanki, Daley, Victory and Hoitenga, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cherry to adopt the meeting minutes from March 5, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. Chair Shink testified to SB 645. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 645: Belita Cowan, President of the Lymphoma Foundation of America – Support Cheryl Rubble, MD Michigan Clinicians for Climate Action – Support Geoff Horsfield, Enfironmental Working Group – Support Terrence Stovall, Landscape Professionals – Opposition Austin Douglas, Ditch the Itch – Opposition Thomas Bergschwenger, Natural Approach Lawn and Tree Care – Opposition Steve Martinko, Michigan Green Industry Association – Opposition Bill Welsch, Michigan Pest Management – Opposition Amy Upton, MI Nursery and Landscape Assoc. – Opposition Jerry Grossi, Arbor Lawn, Inc. – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 645: Jami Des Chenes, MI Chemistry Council – Opposition Michael Alaimo, MI Chamber of Commerce – Opposition Tim Minotas, Sierra Club – Support Max Sano, Beyond Pesticides – Support Samantha Pickering, MI Environmental Council – Support Page 1 of 2 Rusty Merchant, Responsible Industry for a Sounds Environment – Opposition Stephanie Szymas, MI Agri-Business Association – Opposition Dan Pappineau, True Green – Opposition Ben Tirell, MI Farm Bureau – Opposition Mikaylah Heffernan, MDARD – Neutral There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
