BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7315 FAX: (517) 373-3126 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 17, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Health Policy was scheduled for Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 5527 (S-2) (Rep. Fitzgerald) with recommendation. 2. Reported HB 5528 (S-2) (Rep. Carter) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:36 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Hertel, Sen.(s) Santana, Wojno, Cherry, Klinefelt, Geiss, Webber, Hauck, and Huizenga, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Klinefelt to adopt the meeting minutes from March 20, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion from Sen. Webber to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. Runestad was excused from the meeting. The Chair invited Rep. Carter to summarize HB’s 5527 - 5528. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB’s 5527-5528: Cindie DeWolf, American Heart Association – Support Alex Bowerson, American Heart Association – Support Dr. Alyssa Vermeulen, University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital – Support Dr. Brad Uren, MI State Medical Society and MI College of Emergency Physicians – Support Ken Edmonds, National Football League – Support Randy Gillary, The Kimberly Ann Gillary Foundation - Support The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB’s 5527-5528: Page 1 of 2 Jennifer Smith, MI Association of School Boards – Support HB 5527 Nicole Nystrom, Stryker Corporation – Support Dr. Robert Neumar, Save MI Heart – Support Dr. Michael Fill, MI College of Emergency Physicians – Support Dr. Sheryl Kennedy, MI Department of Education – Support Brian Broderick, Michigan Association of Nonpublic Schools – Support Paul Stankewitz, Michigan Catholic Conference – Support The Chair invited Sen.
