BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7888 FAX: (517) 373-2983 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 15, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Elections and Ethics was scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., in the 1100 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 402 (Sen. Moss) and SB 404 (Sen. Geiss). The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:02 p.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Moss, Sen.(s) Wojno, Santana, McMorrow, Chang and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to adopt the meeting minutes from May 8, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Johnson to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen. McBroom was excused from the meeting. Chair Moss summarized SB 402. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 402: Erica Peresman, Promote the Vote – Support The Chair invited Senator Geiss to explain SB 404. Member questions followed. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 404: Eric Welsby, Detroit Disability Power – Support Amanda Zoch, Secure Democracy – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 402 and SB 404: Bruce Barlon, citizen – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 402 and SB 404: Sheree Ritchie, Pure Integrity Michigan Elections – Opposition Page 1 of 2 The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 403: Christine Suave, Michigan Immigration Rights Center – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 401, SB 402, SB 403 and SB 404: Michelle Kanter Cohen, Fair Elections Center – Support Michigan Assoc. of Counties Legislative Committee – No Position Logan Vorce, Michigan League of Conservation Voters – Support Ben Gardner, All Voting is Local – Support Nomi Joyrich, Jews for Secular Democracy – Support Christopher White, ROC Michigan – Support Kurtis Hernandez, APIA Vote-Michigan – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
