BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7670 FAX: (517) 373-5958 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 22, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Veterans and Emergency Services was scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported HB 4154 (Rep. DeBoyer) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 788 (Sen. Santana) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Klinefelt, Sen.(s) Hertel, Santana and Outman, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Hertel to adopt the meeting minutes from February 21, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up HB 4154 and invited Rep. DeBoyer to summarize the bill. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4154: Pam May, Mother of Chief Petty Officer May – Support Phil May, Father of Chief Petty Officer May- Support Theresa May, Stepmother of Chief Petty Officer May – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Hertel to report HB 4154 to the floor with recommendation that the bill pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Klinefelt, Sen.(s) Hertel, Santana and Outman Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair brought up SB 788 and invited Sen. Santana to summarize the bill. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 788: Lolita Tucker, Commander, DAV – Support Tim Poxson, Legislative Chair, American Legion Dept. of MI - Support The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 788: David Handsor, MI Department of State - Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Outman to report SB 788 to the floor with recommendation that the bill pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Klinefelt, Sen.(s) Hertel, Santana and Outman Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 9:30 a.m. Date adopted by committee: 06/12/2024
