BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7748 FAX: (517) 373-1387 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 12, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection was scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 495 (S-1) (Sen. Lauwers) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 378 (S-1) (Sen. Singh) with recommendation. 3. Testimony regarding SB 408 (Sen. Irwin) and SB 409 (Sen. Cavanagh). 4. Testimony regarding HB 5460 (Rep. Farhat). The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:36 p.m.. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cavanagh, Sen.(s) Irwin, McCann, Bayer, Camilleri, Huizenga, Theis and Daley, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McCann to adopt the meeting minutes from May 22, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 495: Allison Koppel, American Fraternal Alliance – Support Joseph Sullivan, Department of Insurance and Financial Services – Support The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Irwin to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 495. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cavanagh, Sen.(s) Irwin, McCann, Bayer, Camilleri, Huizenga, Theis, and Daley. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bayer to report the (S-1) version of SB 495 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cavanagh, Sen.(s) Irwin, McCann, Bayer, Camilleri, Huizenga, Theis, and Daley. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 378: Page 1 of 2 Joseph Sullivan, Department of Insurance and Financial Services – Neutral The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Bayer to report the (S-1) version of SB 378 to the floor with recommendation that it pass.
