BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7346 FAX: (517) 373-9320 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES July 30, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety was scheduled for Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium, Wayne State University Law School, 471 W. Palmer Ave., Detroit Michigan. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding HB 4909 (S-1) (Rep. Breen). 2. Testimony regarding HB 4910 (S-1) (Rep. Tsernoglou). 3. Testimony regarding HB 4911 (S-1) (Rep. Filler). 4. Testimony regarding HB 4912 (S-1) (Rep. Johnson). The Chair called the meeting to order at 11:09 a.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Chang, Sen.(s) Shink, Wojno, Irwin and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Shink to adopt the meeting minutes from June 20, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up the (S-1) versions of HB’s 4909-4912. The Chair invited the following individuals to present oral and / or written testimony regarding the (S-1) versions of HB’s 4909-4912: Christine Abood, Self – Neutral Randy Asplund, Self – No Position Gretchen Racel Hammond, Self – Support Genevieve Marron, Right to Life MI – Support Cynthia Mifsud, Self – Support Noah Cox, Self – No Position Brandee Ritsema, Self – Support Jody White, Self – Neutral Tom Howe, Self – Oppose Vernell C. Allen, Self – Support Tina Lindsay, Clarence Franklin – Support Jeff White, CEAR – Oppose Ananda Wind, Self – No Position Gary Kaufman, Self – No Position Rick Black, Self – No Position Randy Robinson, Self – Support Tonja Brummitt Cottman, Self – No Position Lori Cooley, Self – Neutral Penny Vanover, Self – Neutral Juliana Cantier, Self – Neutral Joseph Fresard, Self – Support Roslund Harris, Self – Support The Chair moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Santana and Runestad were excused from the meeting. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
