BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-3447 FAX: (517) 373-5849 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 9, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 10:15 a.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 958, SB 959, SB 960 and SB 961 (Sen. Camilleri). The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:15 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Singh, Sen.(s) McMorrow, Polehanki and Lindsey, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McMorrow to adopt the meeting minutes from April 24, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Geiss and McBroom were excused from the meeting. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. McMorrow to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 958. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Singh, Sen.(s) McMorrow, Polehanki, and Lindsey. Nays: None The motion prevailed and the (S-1) was adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 958, SB 959, SB 960 and SB 961: Sen. Darrin Camilleri – Support Sara Ismail, ACCESS – Support Antwuan Wallace, Data Research and Evaluation – Support Lucine Jarrah, Arab American Heritage Council – Support Henry Duong, Rising Voices – Support Matt Stiffler, ACCESS - Center for Arab Narratives – Support Marshalle Favors, New Detroit – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 958: Samantha Gibson, Michigan Association of Counties – No Position Page 1 of 2 Joan Gustafson, Michigan Nonprofit Association – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 958, SB 959, SB 960 and SB 961: Jeff Cobb, Education Trust Midwest – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 958: Christine Sauve, Michigan Immigrant Rights Center – Support Kelly Walden, Think Babies Michigan – Support Rachel Richards, Michigan League for Public Policy – Support Kim Murphy-Kovalick, Voters Not Politicians – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
