BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7346 FAX: (517) 373-9320 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 23, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety was scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 813 (S-2) (Sen. Cherry) with recommendation. 2. Reported HB 5724 (S-3) (Rep. Breen) with recommendation. 3. Testimony regarding SB 809 (Sen. Shink). 4. Reported HB 5204 (Rep. Breen) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 3:04 a.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Chang, Sen.(s) Shink, Wojno, Irwin, Santana, Runestad and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to adopt the meeting minutes from October 17, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up the (S-2) version of SB 813, and invited Sen. Cherry to summarize the bill. The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB 813 (S-2): Jess Averill, MI Domestic & Sexual Violence Prevention & Treatment Board – No Position Sen. Runestad offered amendment #1 to SB 813 (S-2). The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Runestad to adopt amendment #1 to SB 813 (S-2). The vote was as follows: Yeas: Sen.(s) Runestad and Johnson Nays: Chair Chang, Sen.(s) Shink, Wojno, Irwin and Santana The motion failed and the amendment was not adopted. Sen.
