BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2406 FAX: (517) 373-5679 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES November 12, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 12:00 noon, in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 999 (Sen. Irwin) with recommendation. 2. Testimony regarding SB 1082 (Sen. McMorrow). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:35 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, Geiss, Lindsey, Hoitenga, and Damoose, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Santana to adopt the meeting minutes from October 30, 2024. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair summarized SB 999. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 999: Demetrius Starling, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – Support The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 999: Family Law Section Council – Oppose The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to report SB 999 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Chang, Cherry, and Geiss Nays: Sen. Damoose Pass: Sen.(s) Lindsey and Hoitenga The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair invited Sen. McMorrow to summarize SB 1082. Page 1 of 2 The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 1082: Cody Venzke, ACLU – Support Dr. Catherine Gliwa, Michigan Section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists – Support Tyler Diers, TechNet – No Position Andrew Kingman, State Privacy and Security Coalition – No Position Elisabeth Smith, Center for Reproductive Rights – Support The following cards were read of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 1082: Amy Zaagman, Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health – Support Merissa Kovach, ACLU of Michigan – Support Amy Drumm, Michigan Retailers Association – Oppose Kelly Doyle, The HIV/AIDS Alliance of Michigan – Support Grant Meade, The Michigan Academy of Family Physicians – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
