BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2406 FAX: (517) 373-5679 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 25, 2025 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Housing and Human Services was scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 12:00 noon, in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Adopted the Committee Rules. 2. Testimony regarding SB 18 (Sen. Irwin). The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:01 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Cherry, Geiss, Lindsey, and Hoitenga, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Santana to adopt the committee rules. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Irwin, Sen.(s) Santana, Cavanagh, Bayer, Shink, Cherry, Geiss, and Hoitenga Nays: Sen. Lindsey The motion prevailed and the rules were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Chang and Damoose were excused from the meeting. The Chair summarized SB 18. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 18: Justin Kasieta, Citizen – Support Amy Harfeld, Children's Advocacy Institute – Support Lisa Ruby, Legal Services of South Central Michigan – Support Alexia Roberts, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support Shantoria Hall, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support Donella Anderson, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support Kimberly Chambers, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support Katie Page Sander, Hands Across the Water – Support Chardae Burton and Rachel Wineland, MDHHS – No Position Page 2 of 2 Chariay Hastings, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support Nicole Holbrook, Citizen – Support Dylan White, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support Brionna Roberts, Park West Foundation Peer Support Program – Support The following cards were read in of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 18: Elizabeth Henderson, Michigan Federation of Children and Families – Support Tom Hickson, Michigan Catholic Conference – Support Rachel Richards, Michigan League for Public Policy – Support Dana Paglia-King, National Association of Social Workers MI Chapter – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
