BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-5100 FAX: (517) 373-5115 **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 6, 2025 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Energy and Environment was scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentations regarding the State of Nuclear Power in Michigan and the United States. The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:32 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McCann, Sen.(s) Singh, Bayer, Shink, Hertel, Chang, Polehanki, Lauwers, Damoose, Outman, and Hauck, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Singh to adopt the meeting minutes from February 27, 2025. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made a motion to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Bellino were excused from the meeting. The Chair invited Ed Rivet, from the Michigan Conservative Energy Forum, to introduce the presentations. The Chair invited Mike O'Brien, Luke Ellis, Plant Manager at the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plan, and Eric Lankheet, Director of Operations at the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant, to give a presentation regarding the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant. The Chair invited Christine Csizmaida, Senior Director of State Government Affairs and Advocacy at the Nuclear Energy Institute, and Patrick White, Research Director at the Nuclear Innovation Alliance, to give a presentation regarding the current, and future, state of the nuclear energy industry and its technology. The Chair invited Todd Allen, Chair of the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Michigan, and Peter Coomar, Dean of Applied Science and Engineering Technology at Monroe County Community College, Page 2 of 2 to give a presentation regarding programs to develop nuclear science and a skilled workforce for the nuclear energy industry. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 2:28 p.m.
