BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-6960 FAX: (517) 373-0897 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 19, 2025 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Appropriations was scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., in the Harry T. Gast Appropriations Room, of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Discussion regarding the impact of federal funding cuts to Michigan's education programs. 2. Presentation by Attorney General Dana Nessel The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:00 pm. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Anthony, Sen.(s) McCann, Cherry, Bayer, Santana, Shink, Irwin, Hertel, Cavanagh, Klinefelt, McMorrow, , Camilleri, Bumstead, Albert, Damoose, Huizenga, Outman and Theis, a quorum was present. The Chair made a motion, supported by Sen. Bumstead, to adopt the committee meeting minutes from February 12, 2025. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair made invited Emily Laidlaw, Director of Early Education at the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) and Rob Mass, Legislative Liaison for MiLEAP, to give the committee an overview of the impact of federal funding cuts to Michigan’s education programs. Next, the Chair invited Dr. Michael Rice, State Superintendent, to give the committee an overview of the impact of federal funding cuts to Michigan’s education programs Next, the Chair invited Attorney General Dana Nessel for a presentation. There being no further business before the committee, the Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Irwin, supported by Sen. Shink, to adjourned the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 3:20pm. Approved: 4/16/25
