BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7350 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 22, 2025 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education was scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the Room 1100 of the Binsfeld Office Building The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 234 (Sen. Polehanki). The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:36 p.m.. The Chair instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, Irwin, Damoose and Johnson. The Chair entertained a motion by Senator Geiss to adopt the meeting minutes from March 6, 2025. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 234: Sen. Polehanki – Support Olivia Ponte, Michigan Department of Education – Support Venessa Keesler, Launch Michigan – Support Jennifer Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 234: Noah Smith, Michigan Association of School Social Workers – Support Peter Spadafore, Michigan Alliance for Student Opportunity – Support Raphael Johnson, 180 Program Foundation – Support Noah Smith, Michigan Association of School Psychologists – Support Wendy Zdeb, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals – No Position There being no further business before the committee, the Chair made a motion to adjourn the committee at 1:55 p.m. Without objection, the committee was adjourned.
