NANCY DEBOER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, May 13, 2026 10:30 AM Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Education and Workforce was called to order by Chair DeBoer. The Chair requested attendance to be called: Present: Reps. DeBoer, Linting, Paquette, Fox, St. Germaine, Pavlov, Wilson, Koleszar, Weiss and Byrnes. Absent: Rep. Kunse. Excused: Rep. Kunse. Representative Linting moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 29, 2026. There being no objection, the motion prevailed with unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5819, HB 5820, and HB 5821 before the committee: HB 5819 (Rep. Schmaltz) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1280f (MCL 380.1280f), as amended by 2024 PA 146. HB 5820 (Rep. Jaime Greene) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1531e (MCL 380.1531e), as added by 2024 PA 147. HB 5821 (Rep. Linting) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1280f (MCL 380.1280f), as amended by 2024 PA 146. Representative Schmaltz testified in support of HB 5819. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Greene testified in support of HB 5820. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Linting testified in support of HB 5821. Questions and discussion followed. Dr. Kari Krantz, representing herself, testified with a neutral position on HB 5819, HB 5820 and HB 5821. Questions and discussions followed. The Chair laid HB 5957 before the committee: HB 5957 (Rep. Questions and discussion followed. The committee returned to consideration of HB 5819, HB 5820, and HB 5821.
