BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7346 FAX: (517) 373-9320 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 5, 2025 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety was scheduled for Thursday, June5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., in Room 403 of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 225 (Sen. Polehanki) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 226 (Sen. Bayer) with recommendation. 3. Reported SB 331 (Sen. McMorrow) with recommendation. 4. Reported SB 332 (Sen. McMorrow) with recommendation. 5. Reported SB 216 (S-1) (Sen. McCann) with recommendation. 6. Reported SB 217 (Sen. McCann) with recommendation. 7. Reported SB 154 (S-2) (Sen. McMorrow) with recommendation. 8. Reported SB 155 (S-2) (Sen. McMorrow) with recommendation. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:02 p.m. She instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Chang, Sen.(s) Shink, Wojno, Irwin, Santana, Runestad and Johnson a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Shink to adopt the meeting minutes from May 22, 2025. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair brought up SB’s 225 and 226, and invited Sen.(s) Bayer and Polehanki to summarize the bills. The Chair brought up SB 224, and invited Sen. Polehanki to summarize the bill. The Chair brought up SB’s 331 and 332, and invited Meredith Chaffin, staff of Sen. McMorrow, to summarize the bills. The Chair brought up SB’s 216 and 217, and summarized the (S-1) version of SB 216. The cards were read of those individuals not wishing to present testimony regarding SB’s 216 and 217: Gabrielle Dresner, ACLU MI – Oppose Jessica Lanave, Self – Support Jeremy Murphy, MI Developmental Disabilities Council – Support Bruce Timmons, Self – Neutral SB 216 The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Shink to adopt the (S-1) version of SB 216. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Wojno to report SB 216 (S-1) to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Chang, Sen.(s) Shink, Wojno, Irwin, Santana, Runestad and Johnson Nays: None The motion prevailed and the bill was reported.
