BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-0142 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 12, 2025 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Labor was scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in room 1300 of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 54 (Sen. Cherry). 2. Testimony regarding SB 319 (Sen. Klinefelt). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m.. The Chair instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Cavanagh and Albert. The Chair entertained a motion by Senator Cavanagh to adopt the meeting minutes from May 13, 2025. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair moved to excuse absent members from the meeting. Without objection Sen. Camilleri was excused from the meeting. The Chair brought up SB 54, and summarized the bill for the committee. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 54: Jennifer Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards - Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 54: Peter Spadafore, Michigan Alliance for Student Opportunity – Support Matthew Schueller, Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators - Support The Chair brought up SB 319, and invited Sen. Klinefelt to summarize the bill for the committee. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 319: Matt Sahr, Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union – Support Scott Bala, Michigan Professional Fire Fighters Union - Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 319: Matt Sowash, Police Officers Association of Michigan – Support Mike Compagnoni, SE Michigan Council of Governments – Oppose Page 2 of 2 Matt Saxton, Michigan Sheriffs’ Association – Oppose Jordyn Selleck, Michigan Communications Directors Association – Oppose Dave Hodgkins, Michigan Municipal League – Oppose John Shay, City Manager, City of Wyoming – Oppose Jim Ritsema, City Manager, City of Kalamazoo – Oppose Judy Allen, Michigan Townships Association – Oppose Bradley Richman, Capitol City Labor Program – Support Samantha Gibson, Michigan Association of Counties – Oppose Jordyn Selleck, Conference of Western Wayne - Oppose There being no further business before the committee, the Chair made a motion to adjourn the committee at 8:51 a.m. Without objection, the committee was adjourned.
