BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 7, 2019 A joint meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Judiciary and Public Safety was scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 2:00 p.m., in the 1200 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentation from State Representative Matt Hall, regarding the Michigan House of Representatives Oversight Committee report on the Office of the Auditor General Performance Audit Report on Children’s Protective Services Investigations, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Dated September 2018. 2. Discussion on Health and Safety Issues of Michigan Correctional Officers. The Chairman called the meeting to order at 2:04 p.m. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chairman McBroom, Sen.(s) Lucido, Theis, MacDonald, and Irwin, a quorum was present. The Chairman invited the committee to recite the Pledge of Alliance. The Chairman entertained a motion by Sen. Lucido to adopt the meeting minutes from April 23, 2019. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chairman invited State Representative Matt Hall to give the committee a presentation regarding the Michigan House of Representatives Oversight Committee report on the Office of the Auditor General Performance Audit Report on Children’s Protective Services Investigations, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Dated September 2018. Copies of the House committee report were distributed. Questions from members followed. The Chairman encouraged members to study the audit and House report. The Chairman invited Michigan Department of Corrections Director Heidi Washington, and Lynn Gorski, Director of the Michigan Department of Corrections Employee Wellness Program, to give the committee a presentation regarding correctional stress and employee wellness. Questions from members followed. The Chairman recognized the Michigan Department of Corrections Warden’s and correctional officers in the audience. The Chairman invited Cary Johnson, Michigan Correctional Officer and Andy Potter, of the Michigan Corrections Organization to present testimony to the committee regarding correctional stress and employee wellness. Questions from members followed. There being no further business before the committee, the Chairman moved to adjourn the meeting.
