BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7840 FAX: (517) 373-3932 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES January 20, 2022 A joint meeting of the Senate Committee on Oversight and the House Committee on Oversight was scheduled for Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., in room 519 of the House Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Presentation from the Office of the Auditor General regarding the Auditor General's report on under reported long-term care facility COVID-19 deaths. Chair S. Johnson called the House Committee on Oversight to order at 10:30 a.m. He instructed the House Clerk to call the roll. A quorum was present. Chair S. Johnson entertained a motion by Rep. Hoitenga to adopt the previous meeting minutes. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. From 10:30 a.m. to 10:35 a.m., Chair S. Johnson recessed the House Committee on Oversight. Chair McBroom called the Senate Committee on Oversight to order at 10:34 a.m. At that time, the following members were present: Chair McBroom, Sen.(s) Theis, Bizon, Wozniak, Irwin and Chang, a quorum was present. Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Bizon to adopt the meeting minutes from January 18, 2022. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. Chair S. Johnson summarized the days agenda and gave opening comments. Chair S. Johnson invited the following individuals from the Office of the Auditor General to give the committee a presentation regarding their response to a request for information related to COVID-19 deaths in long-term care facilities in Michigan made by Rep. Steven Johnson: Doug Ringler, Auditor General Laura Hirst, Deputy Auditor General Brittney Simon, Senior Audit Supervisor Member questions and discussion followed. Page 1 of 2 Chair S. Johnson invited Elizabeth Hertel, Director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to respond to the Auditor General's report. Member questions and discussion followed. From 11:59 a.m. to 12:03 p.m., both the House Committee on Oversight and the Senate Committee on Oversight recessed. Elizabeth Hertel, Director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, returned to continue responding to the Auditor General's report. Member questions and discussion followed. From 12:03 p.m. to 12:46 p.m., Vice Chair Theis chaired the Senate Committee on Oversight while Chair McBroom attended another committee hearing. There being no further business before the House Committee on Oversight, Chair S. Johnson moved to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 1:25 p.m. There being no further business before the Senate Committee on Oversight, Chair McBroom entertained a motion by Sen. Theis to adjourn the committee. Without objection, the committee was adjourned at 1:24 p.m..
