BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-7350 FAX: (517) 373-9228 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES June 20, 2023 A joint meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and House Committee on Education was scheduled for Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 9:00 a.m., in the 352 Room of the House Appropriations. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Discussion related to HB 4820 (Rep. Skaggs). The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Polehanki, Sen.(s) Geiss, Chang, Camilleri, McDonald Rivet, Damoose and Johnson, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Geiss to adopt the meeting minutes from June 13, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding HB 4820: Rep. Phil Skaggs – Support Tammy Danzer, Michigan Education Association – Support Jennifer Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards – Opposition The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding HB 4820: Molly Macek, Mackinac Center for Public Policy – Opposition Dave Ladd, Many Organizations – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
