BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-2420 FAX: (517) 373-2764 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES February 16, 2021 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Readiness was scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at 12:00 noon, in the 403 Room of the Capitol Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 121 (Sen. McBroom). 2. Testimony regarding special education in the Return to Learn plan. 3. Testimony regarding mental health in the Return to Learn plan. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:00 noon and announced that a quorum was not present. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 121: Sen. Ed McBroom – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 121: Todd Tennis, American Federation of Teachers Michigan – Opposition The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding special education: Traci Lambert – No Position Greg Pratt – No Position Correy Black and Renee Krueger, The New Standard Academy – No Position The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding mental health: Dr. Diana Wheatley, Michigan Association of Social School Workers – No Position Dr. Sharon Swindell, University of Michigan Ypsilanti Pediatrics – No Position Jamal Fisher, Grand Rapids Public Schools – No Position There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
