- **DRAFT** COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES March 20, 2024 A meeting of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture and Natural Resources was scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 12:00 noon, in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The Chair called the meeting to order at 12:03 p.m. and announced that a quorum was not present. At 12:03 p.m. the Chair instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cherry, Sen. Theis, a quorum was not present. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding venison donation, wildlife management, and the work of Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger. Amy Trotter, Michigan United Conservation Clubs – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding the Sportsmen Against Hunger program budget needs. Also discussed costs associated with meat processing and testing. Dean Hall, Michigan Sportsmen Against Hunger – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding potential solutions to find meat processors. Discussed an overabundance of deer population, antlerless deer in particular, in the Lower Peninsula. Dan Ulfig, National Deer Association – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding investments in Michigan's wetland program. Discussed the phosphorous reduction pilot program, urban wetlands program, and wetlands conservation program. Kali Rush and Kyle Rorah, Ducks Unlimited – Support The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding Ducks Unlimited and Michigan's wetlands program. Discussed wetland biodiversity and the benefits that can be gained through connecting hydrology. Addressed general fund investment and matching funds from other partners to collaborate on wetland conservation projects. Steve Chadwick, Great Lakes Wetland Advisor, DNR – Support There being no further business before the committee, the Chair made a motion, supported by Sen.
