- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. MATT KOLESZAR CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, January 31, 2023 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Koleszar. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Stone, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Edwards, Wegela, Greene, Paquette, Wendzel, Johnsen. Absent: Rep. Markkanen. Excused: Rep. Markkanen. Representative Glanville joined the committee remotely. Representative Shannon moved to adopt the meeting minutes from January 24, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid the presentation from Dr. Michael Rice, State Superintendent, and Katharine Strunk, Michigan State University Professor before the committee. Katharine Strunk, Michigan State University Professor, gave a presentation on Michigan's Read by Grade Three Law, questions and discussion followed. Representative Greene moved to excuse Representative Markkanen from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Koleszar adjourned the meeting at 10:16 AM.
