BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-0142 FAX: (517) 373-3938 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 4, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Labor was scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Testimony regarding SB 165 (Sen. Cherry), SB 166 (Sen. McDonald Rivet) and SB 167 (Sen. Shink). 2. Testimony regarding SB 169 (Sen. Cherry). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri, Cavanagh and Albert, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to adopt the meeting minutes from April 20, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. The Chair invited the following individuals to present testimony regarding SB 165, SB 166 and SB 167: Sen. John Cherry and Sen. Sue Shink – Support Ray Sholtz and Bryan Osborn, Michigan Corrections Organization – Support Erik Bailey and Richard Cardenas, Michigan State Employees Association – Support Todd Tennis, Coalition for Secure Retirement Michigan – Support Tyler Bond, National Institute on Retirement Security – No Position Anthony Estell and Bree Anderson, Office of Retirement Services – Neutral The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 165, SB 166 and SB 167: James Hohman, Mackinac Center – Opposition Sarah Anderson, Michigan Freedom Fund – Opposition Beth Byrd, SEIU Michigan – Support Mary Kay Henry, Service Employees International Union – Support The Chair read the cards of those individuals not wishing to testify before the committee regarding SB 169: Beth Byrd, SEIU Michigan – Support Jennifer Smith, Michigan Association of School Boards – Opposition Todd Tennis, AFT Michigan – Support Steven Rzeppa, AFSCME Council 25 – Support Andy Neumann, Michigan Education Association – Support Page 1 of 2 There being no further business before the committee, the Chair moved to adjourn the committee.
