- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL SERVICES REP. BRENDA CARTER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, February 9, 2023 9:00 a.m. Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Insurance and Financial Services was called to order by Chair Brenda Carter. The Clerk read a letter dated January 17, 2023, from House Speaker Joe Tate, which appointed the members of the House Committee on Insurance and Financial Services. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Brenda Carter, McFall, Coleman, Stone, Breen, Rogers, Scott, Young, Fitzgerald, Grant, Harris, Bezotte, Aragona, Bruck, Neyer, Smit. Absent: Rep. Markkanen. Excused: Rep. Markkanen. Representative Bruck joined the committee remotely. The Chair stated the Standing Committee on Insurance and Financial Services will follow Chapter IV, stated in the House Standing Rules that were adopted on the House Floor, by the House of Representatives on January 11, 2023. Representative McFall moved to adopt Thursday, at 9:00 a.m. in Room 521 in the House Office Building as the day, time and location for the regularly scheduled meetings of the House Insurance and Financial Services Committee. The motion prevailed 15-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Brenda Carter, McFall, Coleman, Stone, Breen, Rogers, Scott, Young, Fitzgerald, Grant, Harris, Bezotte, Aragona, Neyer, Smit. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid before the committee a presentation given by the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) on "Getting to Know DIFS." The following presenters testified: Joseph Sullivan, the Insurance Legislative Liaison for DIFS; Renee Campbell, Senior Deputy Director and Director of the DIFS Office of Consumer Services, and Ross H. Yednock, the Financial Services Legislative Liaison for DIFS. Representative Harris moved to excuse Representative Markkanen from the meeting. There being no objections the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Representative Coleman made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:46 AM.
