BOX 30036 LANSING, MICHIGAN 48909-7536 PHONE: (517) 373-0142 FAX: (517) 373-3938 COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES September 14, 2023 A meeting of the Senate Committee on Labor was scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., in the 1300 Room of the Binsfeld Office Building. The agenda summary is as follows: 1. Reported SB 165 (S-1) ( Cherry) with recommendation. 2. Reported SB 166 (S-2) (Sen. McDonald Rivet) with recommendation. 3. Reported SB 167 (S-1) (Sen. Shink) with recommendation. 4. Testimony regarding HB 4438 (Rep. Breen) and HB 4439 (Rep. Bezotte). The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m.. He instructed the Clerk to call the roll. At that time, the following members were present: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri, Cavanagh and Albert, a quorum was present. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to adopt the meeting minutes from June 27, 2023. Without objection, the minutes were adopted. Sen. Albert offered, and summarized, an Albert Amendment #1, to SB 165. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Albert to adopt the Albert Amendment #1 to SB 165. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Sen.(s) Albert Nays: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh The motion failed and the amendment was not adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to report the (S-1) version of SB 165 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. Sen. Albert offered, and summarized, an Albert Amendment #1, to SB 166. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Albert to adopt the Albert Amendment #1 to SB 166. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Sen.(s) Albert Page 1 of 2 Nays: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh The motion failed and the amendment was not adopted. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Albert to adopt the (S-4) version of SB 166. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Sen.(s) Albert Nays: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh The motion failed and the substitute was not adopted.. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Cavanagh to report the (S-2) version of SB 166 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported. The Chair entertained a motion by Sen. Camilleri to report the (S-1) version of SB 167 to the floor with recommendation that it pass. The vote was as follows: Yeas: Chair Cherry, Sen.(s) Camilleri and Cavanagh. Nays: Sen.(s) Albert. The motion prevailed and the bill was reported.
