- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON CRIMINAL JUSTICE REP. KARA HOPE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 28, 2023 9:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Criminal Justice was called to order by Chair Hope. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hope, Andrews, Tyrone Carter, Breen, Young, Arbit, Dievendorf, Tsernoglou, Filler, Mueller, Bezotte, Harris, BeGole. Absent: None. Excused: None. At 9:01 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 9:03 AM, the Chair called the committee back to order. Representative Young moved to adopt the meeting minutes from January 31, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Chair Hope laid before the committee a presentation by The Innocence Project. Marla Mitchell-Cichon, Counsel to the Cooley Law School Innocence Project; and Tracey Weaver Brame, Director of the WMU Cooley Innocence Project, gave a presentation to the committee. Questions and discussion followed. Chair Hope laid before the committee a presentation by the Michigan Sheriffs' Association. Ingham County Sheriff, Scott Wriggelsworth, Member of Michigan Sheriffs' Association Legislative Committee; Matt Saxton, Executive Director, Michigan Sheriffs' Association, (Retired Sheriff, Calhoun County); and Dan Pfannes, Deputy Director, Michigan Sheriffs' Association, (Retired Undersheriff, Wayne County), gave a presentation to the committee. Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Hope adjourned the meeting at 10:00 AM.
