KARA HOPE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, March 21, 2023 9:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Criminal Justice was called to order by Chair Hope. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hope, Andrews, Tyrone Carter, Breen, Young, Arbit, Dievendorf, Tsernoglou, Filler, Mueller, Bezotte, Harris, BeGole. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Arbit joined the committee remotely. Representative Tyrone Carter moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 14, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Chair Hope laid before the committee a presentation by the Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 4202 before the committee: HB 4202 (Rep. Pohutsky) A bill to amend 1931 PA 328, entitled "The Michigan penal code," by amending section 520l (MCL 750.520l), as amended by 1988 PA 138. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4202, but did not wish to speak: Mary Pollock, representing the Michigan National Organization for Women. Representative Breen moved to report out HB 4202 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Edwards) A bill to amend 1972 PA 222, entitled "An act to provide for an official personal identification card; to provide for its form, issuance and use; to regulate the use and disclosure of information obtained from the card; to prescribe the powers and duties of the secretary of state; to prescribe fees; to prescribe certain penalties for violations; and to provide an appropriation for certain purposes," by amending section 1 (MCL 28.291), as amended by 2021 PA 105.
