ROGERS CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, March 23, 2023 11:00 AM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Health Policy was called to order by Chair Rogers. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Rogers, Whitsett, Brenda Carter, Haadsma, Neeley, Glanville, Coffia, Conlin, Farhat, Fitzgerald, Miller, Rheingans, VanderWall, Filler, Mueller, VanWoerkom, Roth, Schmaltz, Thompson. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Neeley moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 16, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4224 before the committee: HB 4224 (Rep. Rogers) A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled "The social welfare act," by repealing sections 107a and 107b (MCL 400.107a and 400.107b). Representative VanderWall moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4224. The motion did not prevail 7-12-0: UNFAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. VanderWall, Filler, Mueller, VanWoerkom, Roth, Schmaltz, Thompson. Nays: Reps. Rogers, Whitsett, Brenda Carter, Haadsma, Neeley, Glanville, Coffia, Conlin, Farhat, Fitzgerald, Miller, Rheingans. Pass: None. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4224, but did not wish to speak: Chardae Burton, representing the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Yousef Rabhi, representing the Michigan Nurses Association. Melissa Seifert, representing the AARP Michigan. Evie Sweeney, representing the APTA-MI. Representative Brenda Carter moved to report out HB 4224 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-7-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Rogers, Whitsett, Brenda Carter, Haadsma, Neeley, Glanville, Coffia, Conlin, Farhat, Fitzgerald, Miller, Rheingans. Nays: Reps. VanderWall, Filler, Mueller, VanWoerkom, Roth, Schmaltz, Thompson. Pass: None. Chair Rogers laid before the committee a presentation on the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan. Renee Topolski, Deputy Director for the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan, and Kimberly Baron, Director of School Health Services for Grand Rapids Public Schools, gave a presentation to the committee. Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Rogers adjourned the meeting at 11:30 AM. Representative Julie M.
