JASON M HOSKINS CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 9, 2023 9:00 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Economic Development and Small Business was called to order by Chair Hoskins. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Hoskins, Grant, Whitsett, Neeley, Liberati, Coffia, Farhat, Miller, Tisdel, VanWoerkom, Martin, Roth, St. Germaine. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Whitsett joined the committee remotely. Chair Hoskins read a letter referring Senate Bills 129 through 132 to the Economic Development and Small Business subcommittee on Housing. The Chair laid SB 35 before the committee: SB 35 (Sen. Irwin) A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled "The social welfare act," by amending section 10d (MCL 400.10d), as added by 2012 PA 79. Senator Jeff Irwin testified in support of SB 35. Questions and discussion followed. Rachel Richards representing the Michigan League for Public Policy testified in support of SB 35. Sara Ismail representing the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services testified in support of SB 35. Collin McDonough representing the American Heart Association testified in support of SB 35. Questions and discussion followed. Fanta representing the African Bureau of Immagration and Social Affairs testified in support of SB 35. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 35, but did not wish to speak: Stephanie Johnson, representing the Food Bank Council of Michigan. Amanda Klein, representing the United Way of Southeastern MI. Leah Bacon, representing the Center for Employment Opportunities. Melina Brann, representing the NASW. Todd Tennis, representing the Center for Civil Justice. Lisa Ruby, representing the Michigan Poverty Law Program. Dr. William Dietz, representing the Co-Chair Authority Health Motion Coalition. Barbara Blum-Alexander, representing the Co-Chair Authority Health Motion Coalition. Robb Kennedy, representing the Michigan Community Action. Loretta Bush, representing the CEO Authority Care. Jessica AcMoody, representing the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan. Chardae Burton, representing the Department of Health and Human Services. The Chair laid a presentation on the Business Leaders for Michigan before the committee. Gabe Rodriguez-Garriga, Vice President, Strategy, and Lindsay Case Oalsrok, Vice President of Public Policy gave a presentation on Business Leaders for Michigan. Questions and discussion followed. Gabe Rodriguez-Garriga and Lindsay Case Palsrok representing the Business Leaders for Michigan testified in support of Questions and discussion followed. Representative Grant moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 14, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
