MATT KOLESZAR CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 16, 2023 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Koleszar. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Stone, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Wegela, Greene, Markkanen, Paquette, Wendzel, Johnsen. Absent: Rep. Edwards. Excused: None. Representative Churches moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 9, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4279 and HB 4549 before the committee: HB 4279 (Rep. VanderWall) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending sections 681 and 684 (MCL 380.681 and 380.684), section 681 as amended by 2016 PA 532 and section 684 as amended by 2016 PA 535. HB 4549 (Rep. Shannon) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1233 (MCL 380.1233), as amended by 2021 PA 149. Representative VanderWall and Tim Rigling, Assistant Superintendent of Career Technical Education for the Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District, testified in support of HB 4279. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Shannon and Dr. Sheyl Kennedy, from the Michigan Department of Education, testified in support of HB 4549. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4279, but did not wish to speak: Matthew Schueller, representing the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators. Geiss) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending sections 1526, 1531, 1531d, 1531j, and 1531k (MCL 380.1526, 380.1531, 380.1531d, 380.1531j, and 380.1531k), section 1526 as amended by 1995 PA 289, section 1531 as amended by 2018 PA 235, section 1531d as added by 2003 PA 18, and sections 1531j and 1531k as amended by 2018 PA 234. SB 162 (Sen. McCann) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1233 (MCL 380.1233), as amended by 2021 PA 149.
