- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. MATT KOLESZAR CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 23, 2023 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Koleszar. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Stone, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Edwards, Wegela, Greene, Paquette, Wendzel. Absent: Reps. Markkanen, Johnsen. Excused: Reps. Markkanen, Johnsen. Representative Weiss moved to adopt the meeting minutes from May 16, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4279 and HB 4549 before the committee: HB 4279 (Rep. VanderWall) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending sections 681 and 684 (MCL 380.681 and 380.684), section 681 as amended by 2016 PA 532 and section 684 as amended by 2016 PA 535. HB 4549 (Rep. Shannon) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1233 (MCL 380.1233), as amended by 2021 PA 149. Representative Greene moved to report out HB 4279 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Stone, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Edwards, Wegela, Greene, Paquette, Wendzel. Nays: None. Pass: None. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 4279, but did not wish to speak: John Severson, representing the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators. Representative Glanville moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4549. The motion prevailed 12-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Stone, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Edwards, Wegela, Greene, Paquette, Wendzel. Nays: None. Pass: None. Representative Edwards moved to report out HB 4549 with recommendation, as substitute (H-1). The motion prevailed 10-1-1: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Edwards, Greene, Paquette, Wendzel. Nays: Rep. Wegela. Pass: Rep. Stone. Representative Wendzel moved to excuse Representatives Markkanen and Johnsen from the meeting. There being no objection the motion prevailed by unanimous consent.
