ROGERS CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 6, 2023 4:15 PM Room 519, House Office Building The House Committee on Health Policy was called to order by Chair Rogers. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Rogers, Whitsett, Brenda Carter, Haadsma, Neeley, Glanville, Coffia, Conlin, Farhat, Fitzgerald, Miller, Rheingans, VanderWall, Mueller, VanWoerkom, Roth, Schmaltz, Thompson. Absent: Rep. Filler. Excused: Rep. Filler. Representative Conlin moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 27, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 280 before the committee: SB 280 (Sen. Singh) A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled "Public health code," by amending section 9316 (MCL 333.9316), as added by 2020 PA 261. Representative Skaggs and Kris Young, representing the Office of Senator Singh, testified in support of SB 280. Questions and discussion followed. Kaci Howard and Lisa Taylor, representing Smiles on Wheels, testified in support of SB 280. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 280, but did not wish to speak: Amy Zaagman, representing the Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health. Singh) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956," (MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 3406aa. Kris Young, representing the Office of Senator Singh, and Neema Katibai, representing the Michigan Dental Association, testified in support of SB 281. Questions and discussion followed. Dr. Daniel Miller testified in support of SB 281. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of SB 281, but did not wish to speak: Joseph Sullivan, representing the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Amy Zaagman, representing the Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health. Representative VanderWall moved to excuse Representative Filler from the meeting.
