- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON MILITARY, VETERANS AND HOMELAND SECURITY REP. JENNIFER CONLIN CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, September 12, 2023 12:00 PM Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security was called to order by Chair Conlin. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Conlin, Coleman, Tyrone Carter, Stone, Rogers, Wegela, Markkanen, Bezotte, Martin, St. Germaine. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Rogers moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 13, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 176, SB 330 and SB 364 before the committee: SB 176 (Sen. Santana) A bill to amend 1893 PA 206, entitled "The general property tax act," by amending section 7b (MCL 211.7b), as amended by 2013 PA 161. SB 330 (Sen. Cavanagh) A bill to amend 1893 PA 206, entitled "The general property tax act," (MCL 211.1 to 211.155) by adding section 7c. SB 364 (Sen. Damoose) A bill to amend 1893 PA 206, entitled "The general property tax act," by amending section 53b (MCL 211.53b), as amended by 2022 PA 141. Nick Cook, representing the Office of Senator Santana, testified in support of SB 176. Questions and discussion followed. Senator Cavanagh testified in support of SB 330. Questions and discussion followed. Peter Morman and David Buick, representing the Michigan Department of Treasury, testified in support of SB 176, SB 330 and SB 364. Questions and discussion followed. Sue Lockhart testified in support of SB 176, SB 330 and SB 364. Questions and discussion followed. Josh Parish, founder of VetLife, testified in support of SB 176, SB 330 and SB 364. Questions and discussion followed. Tim Poxson, representing the American Legion, testified in support of SB 176, SB 330 and SB 364.
