LAURIE POHUTSKY CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, September 14, 2023 10:30 AM Room 327, House Office Building The House Committee on Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation was called to order by Chair Pohutsky. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Pohutsky, Hill, Shannon, Arbit, McFall, Paiz, Martin, Prestin, Schriver. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative McFall moved to adopt the meeting minutes from June 22, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. At 10:33 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 10:33 AM, Majority Vice Chair Hill called the committee back to order. Majority Vice Chair Hill laid HB 4590 before the committee: HB 4590 (Rep. Brenda Carter) A bill to designate the monarch butterfly as the official butterfly of the state of Michigan. Johnathon Wertheimer, representing the Office of Representative Brenda Carter, gave testimony in support of HB 4590. Questions and discussion followed. Tina Herzbergt, President of the Sylvan Lake Garden Club, gave testimony in support of HB 4590. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4590, but did not wish to speak: Justin Tomei, representing the Michigan United Conservation Clubs. Dr. Nichole Keway Biber, representing the Anishinaabek Caucus. There being no further business before the committee, Majority Vice Chair Hill adjourned the meeting at 10:42 AM.
