JIM HAADSMA CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, October 12, 2023 9:00 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Labor was called to order by Chair Haadsma. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Haadsma, Mentzer, Koleszar, O'Neal, Andrews, Churches, Wegela, Wozniak, Mueller, Kunse. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Wegela moved to adopt the meeting minutes from September 28, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4932 and HB 4962 before the committee: HB 4932 (Rep. Skaggs) A bill to amend 1978 PA 90, entitled "Youth employment standards act," by amending sections 2, 3, 20, 21, and 22 (MCL 409.102, 409.103, 409.120, 409.121, and 409.122), section 2 as amended by 1996 PA 438, section 3 as amended by 1997 PA 132, and section 22 as amended by 1980 PA 436. HB 4962 (Rep. Scott) A bill to amend 1927 PA 175, entitled "The code of criminal procedure," by amending section 14b of chapter XVII (MCL 777.14b), as added by 2002 PA 29. Representative Mentzer moved to adopt substitute (H-1) to HB 4932. The motion prevailed 8-0-2: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Haadsma, Mentzer, Koleszar, O'Neal, Andrews, Churches, Wegela, Wozniak. Nays: None. Pass: Reps. Mueller, Kunse. Representative Skaggs and Representative Scott testified in support of HB 4932 and HB 4962. Questions and discussion followed. Jayshona Hicks and Sean Egan, representing the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, testified in support of HB 4932. Questions and discussion followed. Rick Angstman, representing Union High School, testified in support of HB 4932 and HB 4962. Questions and discussion followed. The following person submitted a card in opposition to HB 4932 and HB 4962, but did not wish to speak: Dawn Crandall, representing the Home Builders Association of Michigan.
