- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION REP. MATT KOLESZAR CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, October 17, 2023 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Education was called to order by Chair Koleszar. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Koleszar, Churches, Shannon, Stone, Weiss, Glanville, Conlin, Edwards, Wegela, Greene, Markkanen, Paquette, Wendzel, Johnsen. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representatives Shannon, Paquette and Wendzel joined the committee remotely. Representative Glanville moved to adopt the meeting minutes from October 3, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid a presentation from small and rural school superintendents before the committee. Matt Schueller, representing the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, was joined by Stephanie Long, from Leland Public Schools, Greg Nyen, EdD, from Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency, Katy Xenakis-Makowski, from Johannesburg-Lewiston Area Schools, and Dr. Katherine Bertolini, from Maple Valley Schools. All gave a presentation on small and rural school districts. Questions and discussion followed. There being no further business before the committee, Chair Koleszar adjourned the meeting at 10:13 AM.
