- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION REP. CAROL GLANVILLE CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, October 25, 2023 10:00 AM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Higher Education was called to order by Chair Glanville. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Glanville, Rheingans, Koleszar, Scott, Byrnes, Coffia, Hill, MacDonell, Paiz, VanderWall, Paquette, Zorn, Bruck, DeSana. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Paquette joined the committee remotely. Representative Rheingans moved to adopt the meeting minutes from October 11, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5175, HB 5176 and HB 5177 before the committee: HB 5175 (Rep. O'Neal) A bill to amend 2005 PA 248, entitled "Children of veterans tuition grant act," by amending sections 2 and 4 (MCL 390.1342 and 390.1344). HB 5176 (Rep. Wilson) A bill to amend 1964 PA 208, entitled "An act to grant scholarships to students enrolled in postsecondary education institutions; and to provide for the administration of the scholarship program," by amending sections 2 and 4 (MCL 390.972 and 390.974), section 4 as amended by 2021 PA 40. HB 5177 (Rep. Hope) A bill to amend 1966 PA 313, entitled "An act to award tuition grants to resident students enrolled in independent nonprofit institutions of higher learning; and to make an appropriation therefor," by amending sections 2 and 3 (MCL 390.992 and 390.993), section 3 as amended by 2021 PA 41. Representative O'Neal and Representative Wilson testified in support of HBs 5175, 5176, and 5177.
