BRENDA CARTER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Thursday, January 18, 2024 9:00 AM Room 521, House Office Building The House Committee on Insurance and Financial Services was called to order by Chair Brenda Carter. The Clerk read a letter from Speaker Joe Tate removing Representative Kevin Coleman and Representative Lori Stone from the Committee. The Clerk read a letter from Speaker Joe Tate adding Representative Penelope Tsernoglou to the Committee. The Clerk read a letter from Speaker Joe Tate adding Representative Jason Hoskins to the Committee. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Brenda Carter, McFall, Breen, Rogers, Scott, Young, Fitzgerald, Grant, Hoskins, Tsernoglou, Harris, Markkanen, Bezotte, Aragona, Bruck, Neyer, Smit. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Breen joined the committee remotely. Representative Tsernoglou moved to adopt the meeting minutes from November 2, 2023. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 388 before the committee: SB 388 (Sen. Klinefelt) A bill to amend 2003 PA 215, entitled "Credit union act," by amending section 355 (MCL 490.355), as amended by 2016 PA 152. Representative Hoskins moved to refer SB 388 to the Committee on Military, Veterans and Homeland Security. The motion prevailed 16-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Brenda Carter, McFall, Rogers, Scott, Young, Fitzgerald, Grant, Hoskins, Tsernoglou, Harris, Markkanen, Bezotte, Aragona, Bruck, Neyer, Smit. Nays: None. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 5062 before the committee: HB 5062 (Rep. O'Neal) A bill to establish the pediatric cancer research, treatment, resources, and education fund in the department of health and human services; to provide for the distribution of money from the fund; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state agencies and officials; to create an advisory commission and establish its powers and duties; and to require the promulgation of rules. Representative Rogers moved to refer HB 5062 to the Committee on Health Policy. The motion prevailed 16-0-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. Brenda Carter, McFall, Rogers, Scott, Young, Fitzgerald, Grant, Hoskins, Tsernoglou, Harris, Markkanen, Bezotte, Aragona, Bruck, Neyer, Smit. Nays: None. Pass: None.
