HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND SENIORS REP. STEPHANIE A. YOUNG CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, May 14, 2024 12:00 PM Room 326, House Office Building The House Committee on Families, Children and Seniors was called to order by Chair Young. The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Young, Coffia, Glanville, Arbit, Edwards, MacDonell, Wozniak, Fox, Johnsen, Thompson. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Coffia moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 5, 2024. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid SB 498 before the committee: SB 498 (Sen. Irwin) A bill to amend 1939 PA 288, entitled "Probate code of 1939," by amending section 13b of chapter XIIA (MCL 712A.13b), as amended by 2008 PA 201. Senator Jeff Irwin testified in support of SB 498. Questions and discussion followed. Lorna Elliott-Egan, representing the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, testified in support of SB 498. Questions and discussion followed. Whitney Gravelle, representing the Bay Mills Indian Community, testified in support of SB 498. The following person submitted a card in support of SB 498, but did not wish to speak: Mike McCoy, representing the Sault St. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
