Whereas, These historic achievements not only brought immeasurable joy to the people of Michigan but also united communities and instilled a sense of resilience and hope during challenging times; and Whereas, It is fitting and proper to honor and recognize these exceptional sporting achievements by designating April 18th as “Champions Day” in Michigan, a day to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of Joe Louis, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Red Wings during the memorable sports season of 1935; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare April 18, 2025, as Champions Day in the state of Michigan. We encourage the people of our state to commemorate the exceptional accomplishments of Joe Louis, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Red Wings during the historic sports season of 1935.
