- In The Chair: Smit The House agreed to the title of the bill. Rep. Posthumus moved that the bill be given immediate effect. The motion prevailed, 2/3 of the members serving voting therefor. Rep. Wooden, having reserved the right to explain his protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement: “Mr. Speaker and members of the House: While I support the legislation’s intent and appreciate the need to establish a final date to place replacement nominees on the ballot in the case of death or disqualification, I am concerned setting this deadline without placing a remedy for when a candidate dies within the 55-day period opens unintended consequences.” Rep. Posthumus moved that House Bill No. 5468 be placed on its immediate passage. The motion prevailed, a majority of the members serving voting therefor.
