- Whereas, Through the passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” Washington Republicans have cancelled hundreds of renewable energy credits and programs intended to provide affordable, efficient energy to the American people, now passing the costs off to billpayers; and Whereas, In a time of heightened economic uncertainty, the Trump Administration is making it even harder for farmers, drivers, consumers, and all other Michigan residents to make ends meet; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate, That the members of this legislative body call on the President to be honest with the American people about the decisions his administration has made that are causing higher energy bills for Michigan families; and be it further Resolved, That we urge the United States Congress to pass a war powers resolution to bring a swift conclusion to Trump’s war with Iran, which has indisputably caused a significant spike in fuel costs since the conflict began; and be it further Resolved, That this body calls upon the Trump Administration to reinstate the renewable energy projects and programs that would have provided cheap, reliable, clean energy to the American people; and be it further Resolved, That we urge the President to allow energy companies to close inefficient, costly coal plants that are hiking costs, polluting our environment, and failing to meet our energy needs; and be it further Resolved, That we call upon our leaders in Washington to pursue every available means to tackle surging energy costs, restore proven-effective renewable energy programs, and put the priorities of the American people first and foremost; and be it further Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the President of the United States, the Speaker and Minority Leaders of the United States House of Representatives, the Majority and Minority Leaders of the United States Senate, and members of the Michigan congressional delegation. The question being on the adoption of the resolution, Senator Singh requested the yeas and nays. The yeas and nays were ordered, 1/5 of the members present voting therefor.
