Medication aides are typically paid less than registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs). However, some healthcare settings may find that the cost of hiring and training medication aides is not justified by the savings in labor costs. Healthcare settings are legally responsible for the actions of their employees. Some healthcare settings may be concerned about the potential liability of medication aides making medication errors. In addition, Medication aides should receive comprehensive training on all aspects of medication administration, including medication safety, pharmacology, and patient assessment. My no vote was in support of current and future RN’s, LPN’s and other medical professionals.” House Bill No. 4923, entitled A bill to amend 1978 PA 368, entitled “Public health code,” by amending sections 21903 and 21905 (MCL 333.21903 and 333.21905), as added by 2017 PA 172.
