- Rep. Lightner, having reserved the right to explain her protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement: “Mr. Speaker and members of the House: If we are going to increase penalties for assault, it should be for any person, not just one class of people.” Rep. Aiyash moved that Senate Bill No. 533 be placed on its immediate passage. The motion prevailed, a majority of the members serving voting therefor. Senate Bill No. 533, entitled A bill to amend 1949 PA 300, entitled “Michigan vehicle code,” by amending sections 217, 222, and 233a (MCL 257.217, 257.222, and 257.233a), sections 217 and 233a as amended by 2022 PA 224 and section 222 as amended by 2014 PA 290. Was read a third time and passed, a majority of the members serving voting therefor, by yeas and nays, as follows:
