The motion prevailed. Senator Runestad’s statement is as follows: I rise to speak to my amendment raising the age for sexual conduct or sexual penetration in the state to the age of 18. Mr. President, I sincerely hope the majority party will support my amendment and not defend or support men having sex with children because if they do, then we will be in the majority for the next 40 years. Senate Bill No. 212, entitled A bill to amend 1998 PA 386, entitled “Estates and protected individuals code,” by amending sections 2519, 5103, 5204, 5206, and 5215 (MCL 700.2519, 700.5103, 700.5204, 700.5206, and 700.5215), section 2519 as amended by 2010 PA 325, section 5103 as amended by 2016 PA 483, section 5204 as amended by 2005 PA 204, and section 5215 as amended by 2020 PA 365. The House of Representatives has substituted (H-1) the bill. The House of Representatives has passed the bill as substituted (H-1), ordered that it be given immediate effect and pursuant to Joint Rule 20, inserted the full title. Pending the order that, under rule 3.202, the bill be laid over one day, Senator Singh moved that the rule be suspended. The motion prevailed, a majority of the members serving voting therefor.
